Dear Mediapolis Families,
As you may be aware, there has been an incident of school violence this morning at Perry High School, which is in a community just outside of Des Moines. While the details are not yet clear, our thoughts are with the students, staff, and families of Perry at this time.
We want our families to know we are in close contact with local law enforcement officials. They believe the incident in Perry to be isolated, and there is no indication of an active threat here at Mediapolis CSD.
Out of an abundance of caution, there will be an increased police presence in our schools today. The safety and security of our school community remain our top priority.
We know that some students may struggle to process terrible news like this. Our school counselors are available and ready to assist as needed. We encourage students to stop by the counseling office at their school at any time if they need support.

The fifth grade attended the SCC Career Fair on Monday. The students attended six sessions, where they learned about several different career options and the paths that the speakers took to obtain their careers.

Vespers 2023 was a huge success. Congrats to Mr. Byrne, Mrs. Reif and all the students/community for putting on a great show.
On Wednesday, December 20, 2023 we will recognize athletes that have committed to playing a sport at the college level. Join us at 12:30 pm in the High School Gym to congratulate Drew Miller, Logan Rosas and Hanna Wagenbach.
Tomorrow, 12/15, the High School will run on a “B day” schedule.
High School Wrestling vs BND/WB/Danville and WACO will begin at 6:00 PM tonight. SR Cheerleader Recognition between 1st and 2nd dual. Youth Wrestling Appreciation between 2nd and 3rd duals. The lights are on and its great night for wrestling!!!
Activity updates for 12/14:
-JH girls basketball will still play at New London at 4:30. Bus time is 3:40.
-Varsity wrestling at Mediapolis is still on as of now, as long as power at the school is restored. A final decision will be made by 3:00pm.
- HS girls basketball practice is TBD this afternoon. Players need to watch for communication from Coach Borrison.
Due to no electricity, phones, or internet, school will dismiss at 10am today (12/14). The school cannot receive calls at this time.
