Dear Mediapolis Families and Community Members,
Over the past year, the Mediapolis Community School District began the process of developing a long-range facility plan to address three challenges:
There is not enough space at the elementary level for current enrollment nor to provide preschool services. The district is budgeting this project using SAVE dollars and has begun developing plans to move forward in the fall. This will take up the capacity of that funding.
There is not a dedicated district cafeteria, so lunch is served in the gym. This creates physical education scheduling challenges for our all-day elementary, middle, and high school PE classes. The district is including this project because it needs a new elementary gym.
The high school technical education (shop) classrooms need to be updated. We lack the space and equipment to expose our students to careers in manufacturing, agriculture, engineering, business, computer science, construction, welding, and health occupations. The district wants to add a state-of-the-art career center to prepare students for their futures. This is a project that will need taxpayer support.
Again, the district is using budgeted SAVE dollars to expand the elementary building. Addressing all of these issues is more than we can afford from our annual budget. Therefore, we are kindly asking our taxpayers to consider additional funding. One survey per household will be sent to all tax-paying citizens of our district to see if you support these educational facility projects. This survey will have detailed information for you as a taxpayer so you can make an informed decision, including a district tax rate comparison and the tax impact of each proposed project.
Please look for this survey to land in your mailbox soon and help us get the word out!
